Chosen scored after just two minutes when centre Steve Merrick charged over for a try converted by veteran outside half Brendan Duffy.
Fifteen minutes later Crypt levelled with their own converted try but Duffy put his team back in front with a penalty goal. Several missed tackles allowed Crypts to go in front with a second converted try and the score was 14-10 to Crypts at half time.
Duffy and the Crypt kicker exchanged penalties and another Crypt penalty gave them a 20-13 lead.with ten minutes remaining but they then lost a player with a leg injury meaning play was halted for around ten minutes and when play resumed Chosen grabbed a pushover try from number eight Mike Panting converted by Ashley Lewis to level the scores at 20 points all and send the match into extra time.
A converted push over try for Cryptians on the stroke of half time in the extra period gave them a 27-20 lead and another try, two minutes into the second period put them fourteen points up but Chosen came back with an unconverted try from replacement Marc Riddel.
With the match now over two hours old cramp started to be a problem for many players and Chosen were unable to grab another score to narrow the gap with the final act being a penalty goal from Cryptians that sealed their victory.
